Reigning KA2 Australian Champion and current KA1 Australian Kart Championship leader Reece Sidebottom has joined one of the World’s longest standing kart brands – Scuderia PCR.

Sidebottom, 15, will join the Scuderia PCR Australia team from next month’s third round of the Championship under the Reevu Motorsport umbrella with his sights set on international opportunities with the iconic brand.

“Tommy Gallo (Scuderia PCR Australia boss) is someone who focuses on giving his drivers the best opportunity at success in a very tight knit team, I’m really looking forward to working with him and the PCR team,” said Sidebottom.

“The opportunity to drive with Reevu Motorsport came out of the blue just before the opening round in Dubbo and one that I’m very thankful that came along.

“After winning last year’s Championship my future in karting was very much up in the air, I had started an apprenticeship and we didn’t really have the funds to move into seniors. At the time the Reevu helmet, that incorporates the rear vision system, had just been approved for use in karting and it has been great to be an ambassador for the brand.

“I would never have thought that I would be in this position of dominating the opening round and now leading the Championship but I’m thankful for the opportunity provided to me by Reevu and now the new opportunity of joining with the PCR team.”

Not only does this new arrangement cater for the remainder of the KA1 championship but also a clear pathway for Sidebottom to graduate into the KZ2 ranks in 2017. He will soon begin a testing program aboard a KZ2 kart in between his KA1 commitments to prepare him for next year.

“Reece’s results last year in KA2 was very impressive, as has his start to the 2016 Championship in the KA1 class. He is a true talent and one that I’m very excited to have in the Scuderia PCR Australia team,” said Gallo.

“At PCR we are one big family and we welcome Reece to the family and at the same time want to provide him with the best pathway of success which is why we want him to focus on the KA1 Championship for the remainder of the year. It is then planned he will move into the KZ2 ranks in 2017 with some significant testing under his belt.”

Sidebottom will debut in his new colours during next month’s third round of the Australian Kart Championship at the Monarto Karting Complex in South Australia on May 13-15.

“This really is one of the most exciting times of my racing life, and I cannot thank those who have supported me along the way enough, especially A1 Engines, City Finance, Reevu Motorsport, Penrite Oil, Galvaniize Insurance, Vortex Engines, SCT Logistics along with Mum and Dad,” added Sidebottom.

“I won at Monarto last year and I’m really looking forward to getting back there in my new colours next month. I will also debut a new Reevu helmet designed to match the PCR colours that us currently being designed by SCM Customs.”
