Moore upstages stars for first NT crown - from the NT News

Territorian go-karter Michael Moore broke through for his first NT Championship win in a stellar performance at Hidden Valley.

Moore upstaged a field of highly rated drivers in the Clubman Light category to win in his Australian-made Omega kart.

‘‘It’s an amazing feeling. I’m over the moon,’’ he said.

‘‘After qualifying fastest I was able to be right up there in the heat races and then managed to get a jump in both the pre-final and final.

‘‘With the nationals being held here in Darwin next year it is a huge confidence boost for me.

‘‘No doubt this is the biggest win of mycareer.’’

Sydneysider Jacob Parsons finished second, with West Australian driver Nathan Davis third and Territory young gun Magdeline Breed fourth.

Fellow Territorian Royce Nott made it back-toback NT title wins in the Leopard Light class. The Fujitsu Cool Development driver edged out WA’s Adam Garnaut.

Five-time Australian champion Kip Foster capitalised on a scuffle for second place to win the Clubman Heavy final.

In the Junior National Light category, South Australian Luke Marquis claimed his second state championship in as many weeks after he won the Queensland Championship in Warwick the week before.

Current Australian champion Anton de Pasquale proved superior in the Junior National Heavy category, while in the Junior Max Class NSW teenager Joseph Burton-Harris was too strong. Lee Foster took out the Clubman Super Heavy category and, in the battle of the youngsters, Sam Dicker and Nikola Mitic were victorious in the Midgets and Rookies categories respectively. Dicker won the Midgets class in extraordinary fashion after overtaking Brock Kenny and Cooper Murray on the final turn.

Many competitors from the event will return to the Hidden Valley venue in Darwin to contest next year’s Australian championships from July 6-8.
