2013 Bundaberg Marineland Queensland Karting Championships
Bundaberg, QLD

RESULTS: Pre-Final

Rookies
1. Zac Raddatz
2. Declan Fraser
3. Tyler O’Leary
4. Ryan Suhle
5. Jordan Caruso
Race Notes: Zac Raddatz jumped into the lead at the start of the 15-lap Rookies pre-final before fastest qualifier, and winner of the two heat races, Harrison Hoey resumed control.  Raddatz didn’t give up easily and fought back by mid race before it became a four-way battle at the front.  As they battled centimetres apart it appeared as though there was contact which resulted in Hoey, Cooper Murry and Jayden Gollan spinning.  Raddatz crossed the line two seconds clear of Declan Fraser and O’Leary.

Leopard Light
1. Pierce Lehane
2. John Grother
3. Brock Plumb
4. Josh Crossingham
5. Roland Legge
Race Notes: Arrow Karts driver Brock Plumb took advantage of his front row start in the Leopard Light pre-final in Bundaberg to jump into the lead. Behind him Pierce Lehane quickly disposed of second placed Andrew Mercuri before battling with for the lead. After qualifying poorly, Gladstone’s John Grother showed good speed to follow Lehane past Plumb. As Lehane drove off into the distance aboard his Redspeed, Grother edged away from Plumb and Josh Crossingham to finish second.

Junior Clubman
1. Jake Klein
2. Nicholas Rowe
3. Harry Hayek
4. Jordi Marcon
5. Thomas Maxwell
Race Notes: KTEQ Rentals driver Nicholas Rowe leapt into the lead of the Junior Clubman pre-final. FA Kart driver Jake Klein found his way into the lead at mid-race before showing superior pace to claim a convincing victory.

Cadets
1. Benito Montalbano
2. Lachlan Hughes
3. Jordyn Sinni
4. Nathan Herne
5. Jack Doohan
Race Notes: As Broc Feeney made the most of his opportunities at the front of the field in the Cadets pre-final, Lachlan Hughes, Jordyn Sinni and Jack Doohan were dicing it out for the minor positions. When the chasing pack started to work together rather than battle for the minors, they closed the gap to the leader before making it a six-kart freight train with five laps remaining. After numerous changes in positions per lap it was Benito Montalbano who crossed the line first in his PCR.

Rotax Heavy
1. Kel Treseder
2. Brendan Nelson
3. Thomas Macdonald
4. Shay Mayes
5. Mason Barbera
Race Notes: The battle for the win in the Rotax Heavy pre-final was a two-way affair between Kel Treseder and Brendan Nelson. The latter made an attempt at a last ap pass for the win, but it was Treseder who held strong to claim pole position for the final. Thomas Macdonald enjoyed a lonely race for third.

Junior National Light
1. William Brown
2. Reece Sidebottom
3. Jacob Prestipino
4. Thomas Maxwell
5. Dylan Hollis
Race Notes: Reigning National Champion Bryce Fullwood took advantage of his pole position in the Junior National Light pre-final to lead the way before William Brown found his way to the front. When Fullwood made an ambitious move to regain the lead it dropped him down the order allowing Reece Sidebottom to inherit the front running. Brown later regained the lead to take the win ahead of Sidebottom and Jacob Prestipino. Fullwood failed to finish after a last corner incident.

Clubman Over 40s
1. Bevan Garioch
2. Gerard Battye
3. Shane Leahy
4. Norm Trost
5. Paul Baxter
Race Notes: Energy driver Gerard Battye upstaged his more fancied rival Bevan Garioch during the early laps of the Clubman Heavy pre-final. After shadowing his fellow Queenslander’s every move during the opening half of the race Garioch pounced to grab the lead and never look back. The Mackay driver won by more than half a second over Battyre, Shane Leahy and Norm Trost.

Rotax Light
1. Pierce Lehane
2. Cian Fothergill
3. Brock Plumb
4. Josh Crossingham
5. Troy Loeskow

Junior Rotax
1. Byrce Fullwood
2. James Abela
3. Russell Whittaker
4. Jake Klein
5. Nicholas Andrews
Race Notes: After securing pole position, Exprit driver James Abela led the early running of the Junior Rotax pre-final. The New South Welshman was pressured during the early laps by Bryce Fullwood and Callum Walker before the pair relieved Abela of the front running at mid race distance. Fullwood took the win ahead of Abela. Jordan Boys and Callum Walker came together late in the race dropping them both well down.

Leopard Heavy
1. Kris Walton
2. Kel Treseder
3. Patrick Mather
4. Luke Jones
5. Mason Barbera
Race Notes: OTK pilot Kris Walton was unmatched on his way to victory in the Leopard Heavy pre-final with the veteran leading home Bundaberg local Kel Treseder. Patrick Mather claimed third place, narrowly ahead of Luke Jones.

Junior National Heavy
1. Jordan Boys
2. Nicholas Rowe
3. Zac Soutar
4. Damon Soutar
5. Jame Litzow
Race Notes: Starting from pole position, Nicholas Rowe led the field away in the pre-final of Junior National Heavy and appeared to open up a race-winning lead – although Jordan Boys had other ideas. As the race continued Boys, Zac Soutar and Damon Schofield joined Rowe in a tight tussle at the front of the field. Emerging the best out of the battle was Boys.

Senior National
1. James Foster
2. Scott Sorensen
3. Ethan O’Farrell
4. Lydon Dodge
5. Blake Worboys
Race Notes: As has come to be expected in the Senior National category, the pre-final was a hard fought affair with Scott Sorensen, James Foster, Ethan O’Farrell and several others dicing it out near the front of the field. Foster opened a good gap mid race and despite some heavy pressure from Sorensen in the late stages, he held on for the win.

Clubman Super Heavy
1. Mason Barbera
2. Scott Simpson
3. Joshua Herne
4. John Rowley
5. Jamie Penningh
Race Notes: Local driver Mason Barbera was swamped at the start of the Clubman Super Heavy pre-final as multiple-time Australian Champion Scott Simpson led the way. By mid-race Barbera’s pace that he has shown throughout the weekend came to fruition and he passed Simpson with ease and drove off with the victory.

Clubman Light
1. Cian Fothergill
2. Troy Loeskow
3. Roland Legge
4. Nicholas Dalton
5. Ben Stewart
Race Notes: The battle for the lead in the Clubman Light pre-final was a four-way battle led by CRG driver Troy Loeskow and Monaco pilot Cian Fothergill. After several lead changes Fothergill proved superior to take over the lead on lap five. When Loeskow and Roland Legge niggled each other for second place it allowed Fothergill to open a race winning lead.

Clubman Heavy
1. Kris Walton
2. Brendan Nelson
3. Luke Jones
4. Chris Farkas
5. Shay Mayes
Race Notes: Queenslander Kris Walton was shadowed by Brendan Nelson throughout the duration of the 15-lap Clubman Heavy pre-final. Despite the heavy pressure from the Arrow Karts driver, Walton held on for the victory to claim pole position for tomorrow’s championship final.
