Kart racer Briggs achieves milestone win on home track - From Northern Star

Timothy Aebi leads the way from Flynn Adams and Karla Curtis in a Junior National Light qualifier at the Lismore track.

LISMORE kart racer Adam Briggs achieved a major milestone on his home track at the Lismore Showground on Sunday.

Briggs, 23, claimed overall victory in the Tag 125 Light division at the NSW Closed State Karting titles.

The title was a fitting reward for Briggs who has starred in a number of divisions but had not previously won an open competition.

“It was a great result and special to do it at home in front of everyone,” Briggs said.

“The little things make a big difference, like being able to have a home-cooked meal and not having to stay in a motel room.

“I’ve been on a number of podiums but this is my first title.

“I put it down to having it on my home track for sure.”

A member of the Lismore Karting Club since 1998, Briggs raced in the state-wide Young Guns events as a teenager.

He has a keen interest in motorsport and was always going to continue karting after high school.

“I still like to compete in as many events as I can,” he said

“We’ve got a really good club in Lismore and it’s something I have a passion for.

“It’s not cheap and you really have to budget and decide how many events you can do.

“I’m lucky with work being good to me and I’ve been able to race at a lot of different places up and down the coast.”

More than 100 competitors were in action at the three-day event.

It attracted drivers from all over the state and the ACT.

Lismore driver Josh Herne won the Clubman Super Heavy division.

Briggs is eyeing off a possible start at the NSW Open titles in Lithgow later this year.
