Joey Mawson Day 1 Diary from Bahrain

Practice 1 – 1st
Had a crash with another driver on the third lap in which I nearly rolled! Was very lucky not to and as a result had a bend steer column. I continued on with the session observing the quick drivers lines and experimented a lot. I got in two flying laps at the end of the session, and was quickest but 2 tenths .

Practice 2 – 1st
I went out and struggled a bit on the opening laps. But by mid session was on good pace. Another driver was as quick as me but when I was behind him I could catch him but he could hang on to me when I was in front. He was pushing me on 2 parts of the track where he was quicker. This was good because my mechanics Tim told me what he was doing when he was behind me to be quicker on those 2 sections. I ended up equal quickest with him.

Practice 3 – 2nd
I had put new tyres on and a different sprocket for final session of the day. I had took onboard with me the sections of the track where I could improve from the 2nd practice session. I was quick early in the session and had traffic mid session but put some good flying laps at the end of the session. I was quickest until the very last seconds where I got pipped. Still overwhelmed to have been second quickest.

Overall we had a awesome day, practicing at night and the awesome track layout and to be in the top 2 every session has definetly giving me confidence for tomorrow but tomorrow is another day so hopefully we can keep it up!
