Australian pair Kyle Ensbey and Ricky Capo are this weekend competing in the KZ2 World Cup at the Sarno circuit in Italy, with 107 drivers entered for the event it’s extremely competitive.

On the opening day of practice each driver had three sessions with Ensbey’s best time (1:00.169) coming in the final session placing him 25th in his group while Capo’s best came when he set the 23rd fastest time (59.708) in his group during his opening session of the day.

Max Verstappen set the pace aboard his CRG kart with a blistering time of 58.220.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY….
Kyle Ensbey – KZ2 #164
“I learnt a lot throughout the day, the biggest thing that I’m learning about is how to drive on so much rubber – the track has just got so much grip, there’s an inch of rubber in some spots. You have to make sure you miss these otherwise you just get stuck,” said Ensbey.

“Throughout the day we tested a couple of chassis and engines, I missed a session due to an engine issue which hurt me a bit. The track is very fast, I hit 164km/h at the end of the straight.

“I’ve fitted into the team really well, they’ve made myself and Hayden (Patrizi) very much at home. My my mechanic Francesco Antonucci is an ex-factory Tony Kart driver, he’s been working some long hours to make sure everything is in order, everyone doesn’t seem to stop over here.

“All in all my Birel motorsport BMB vega machine working well, I’m learning a lot and going forward every time we hit the track. Tomorrow I have three practice sessions, then qualifying and a race – it’s going to be a big day.”

Ricky Capo – KZ2 #151
“For most of today’s three practice sessions, I was around 20th in my group chasing eight tenths on the fastest guys,” said Capo.

“Throughout the day, we had to decide which chassis to use and modify for the event, so it was a very busy day.

“Unfortunately, in my last practice session I had no front left brake pads as they had worn out within three laps and I was forced to retire.

“I’m happy with my pace – in one sector I’m six tenths slower than the fastest and basically the same throughout the other two sectors, now we must modify the chassis to improve my time in the first sector.  If I can find a little bit of speed in that sector I think I’ll be in pretty good shape.”
