We’re at the start of the last quarter of the year and as many State Series’ and Club Championships are building to their climax, we are well into the planning for 2020. The Tasmanian Kart Championship is the only State Championship still to be run and won.
NATIONAL CUP EVENTS COMING UP
Coming up is our annual Race Of Stars event on the Gold Coast that supports the Gold Coast 600 Supercars event. It’s the only time that karts race on the Gold Coast each year at the very fast Xtreme Karting facility in Pimpama and the drivers are chasing the coveted surfboard trophies. Hopefully the rain that has plagued the last two Race of Stars events stays away for this year.
From 1-3 November our focus shifts to South Australia with the first running of Ultimate Club Racer. A new concept and completely new event targeting regular club racers. Priority Invitations to the event have been based on the SP Tools Club Driver Rankings www.clubdriverrakings.com.au with scores accumulated from club level race meetings rights across Australia throughout 2019.
The final pointscores for the 2019 Club Driver Rankings are currently being finalised after the recent events and will be published next week. This will also form the first line-up for the State of Origin event to be contested on the Saturday afternoon.
Entries are open for the only kart race meeting that will be held at the amazing Bend Motorsport Park at South Australia’s Tailem Bend. The 2019 Ultimate Club Racer winners will get to use what will become the coveted SILVER PLATE in their class for the next year.
If you have competed in a Club Driver Rankings event in 2019 anywhere in the country, you are eligible to enter the event and Karting Australia will verify your entry once it is on the CMS. We look forward to seeing you trackside for the event.
The event will be a lot of fun so get your entries in now and we’ll see you are the Bend on Melbourne Cup weekend.
KARTING AWARENESS AND WELCOME TO KARTING DAYS COMING UP
Our first National Karting Awareness month is the month of November. We are planning awareness activities with our Member States and Clubs to run across the month of November culminating with Clubs running their own WELCOME TO KARTING DAY late in the month of November or early in December.
We – Karting Australia, our Member States and your Club’s will need your help to build awareness of your club in your community throughout November.
If your Club hasn’t made the decision to get on board with the program yet – give them a little nudge along and let your committee know that you will lend a hand.
We are co-ordinating displays at the Bathurst 1000 and the Gold Coast 600 events in October in preparation and then in November at Sandown and Newcastle. These are great opportunities to build awareness of our sport through our partnership with Supercars.
SP Tools Ambassador Todd Hazelwood will also be in attendance at our Bathurst display across the weekend at various times for some signing sessions.

The activity on Social media will be ramped up, but its nothing if our Clubs and the karting industry don’t jump on board and build the excitement around our sport in their local communities as well.

Timed to coincide with these promotions and Karting Awareness Month we are just about to release an all new GET STARTED IN KARTING BOOKLET. It answers all the need-to-know questions about how to get started in karting including:

GIRLS RACE TOO
While I’m on the subject about getting started in karting, I want to share with you about our next major project “GIRLS RACE TOO!”
I announced it at the AKC awards dinner (https://www.karting.net.au/live-streaming-from-the-akc-grand-final-2) just before Beck Connell was presented with the 2019 Ladies Trophy.
It’s time that as a sport, we got serious about rolling out the welcome mat at all of our clubs, at all of our race meetings and all of our social karting activities for the girls. We’ve got some great girls who race already and there is room for plenty more girls to have a go at Karting. At club level 4SS is the perfect starting point – girls, you won’t get lost in mechanical and tech stuff, its jump in the seat, right foot down and let’s have some fun!
Girls – it doesn’t matter if you’re a young girl, a teenage girl, a 20 or 30 something girl or maybe even a girl who doesn’t talk about her age any more, we want you to have a drive and a race so that its not just the boys having all the fun anymore.
Motorsport is one of the few sports that doesn’t separate the girls from the guys in the race but fellas, we need to provide a bit of encouragement, to your sisters, your girlfriend, your mum and your aunty to get started.
Here are what I think are the six key things that will make a difference in getting this started and in encouraging the girls to drive and race a kart.

South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia have wound up their State Kart Championships during the month of September.

RESPECT KARTING
Support for the core values of the respect karting program continue to strengthen and develop.
When I first brought the Respect Karting program up with the State Presidents, I asked them all to sign a Pledge stating that:
“On behalf of the Australian Karting Community, we will call out behaviour that undermines our commitment to drive a culture of RESPECT FOR KARTING and ALL WHO PARTICIPATE IN OUR SPORT.
We will not tolerate abuse directed towards Drivers, Teams, Officials, Administrators or Volunteers, so that we can create a safe community, free of bad behaviour, where people want to participate and where fun is paramount.”
Everyone in the room immediately said – where do we sign? The Pledge was formed.
We have now developed a Club Pledge that your Club Committee and all of your Club Members can sign so that your club can proudly display your support for good behaviour in our sport. TORINI 4SS PROMOTION FOR SANDOWN V8’S
Karting Australia partner Torini Engines have a great promotion running with the Oakleigh Go-Kart Club in Victoria in the lead-up to the Sandown Supercars event in November.
Every 4SS entrant at their October Club Day will go into a draw for a Hot Lap aboard Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore in November 8.
KART FUN SESSIONS
With the competition karting season winding down, why not try and get your Club to organise some Kart Fun Sessions.
They are designed to be easy to organise and easy to run, short sharp and shiny social karting – JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.
The guidelines on what to do and how to do it are in Appendix 1 to the Manual. It’s meant be no pressure karting with some friends – ask you club to put a couple of them on now that the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer.
