Young karting champs get F1 lap of honour
REMEMBER these three names – TylerGreenbury, Jake Spencer and Pierce Lehane.
These three drivers were last year crowned the champions in the Castrol EDGE Stars of Karting Series in the Pro Gearbox, Pro Light and Pro Junior categories respectively. All three are eyeing off careers in the world of motorsport.
Last weekend, the trio were recognised for their efforts in 2011 by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport in a parade lap at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.
For Greenbury, who is supported by Gold Coast businesses Bolt Pro and KAOS Karting as he chases back-to-back titles, the parade was an amazing experience.
‘‘To be recognised for what we achieved last year in a parade alongside some of the biggest names in Australian motorsport, is a great reward not only for me but everyone who has supported me and also the sport of karting as a whole,’’Greenbury said.
‘‘To rock up and see your name on a windscreen sticker for a parade at the Grand Prix is something special. Also to see so many people on the side of the track and you being one of the people they’re applauding was pretty cool.’’
Greenbury will this weekend be back in action for the Rotax Pro Tour on the Sunshine Coast, and in the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series in Newcastle on April 21 and 22.
