Rookie go kart driver Harrison Oddie, pictured here with dad Roger, will compete for the top spot in the Cooloola Go Kart Club Championship this weekend.
GYMPIE’S Harrison Oddie will race in the Cooloola Coast Kart Club final championship round this Sunday and he’s ready to win.
Oddie will face his last race as a rookie on November 11 before moving to the next division for his age as a junior.
Oddie has the top spot in the rookie class for 2012.
The last couple months have been busy for Oddie as he headed into two of the biggest meetings for 2012, with the Queensland Closed Titles in Bundaberg where the state’s finest competed.
Oddie was the top qualifier for the weekend with a blistering 40.21 second lap, which gave him pole position for the start.
After a shocking start in heat one he found himself in fifth position, but finished in second place thanks to determination.
For the final Oddie earned himself pole position and lead the race from the start light to take a first place win.
Oddie is the Queensland Closed Title Holder for 2012 in the rookie class.
With his recent win in mind Cooloola Coast Kart Club member Oddie and his family travelled to Coffs Harbour for the NSW Open State Championship.
Oddie faced limited practice time to learn the track and establish himself among 250 other competitors.
He qualified fifth from 30 competitors from around the country.
Oddie was able to move up the pack over the heats to start the final on the front row in second position.
Oddie and Victoria’s Dylan Hollis left the pack behind to start their own battle. Oddie and Hollis diced for the lead with Hollis taking out the win with Oddie right behind in second place.
Cooloola Coast Kart Club will host the final Club Championship round on Sunday from 9am.
Positioning in some classes is so close that this round will determine the championship winner.
The track is located at 10 Runge Rd and there is no entry fee to see some of the fastest motor sport competitors Gympie has to offer.
Attendees should wear closed-in shoes to meet the drivers and see the karts.
