LAUNCESTON kart driver Zane Wyatt is still savouring his recent dual state title success at the Archerville Kartway.

Wyatt, 26, won the state clubman heavy and senior national heavy championships beating local and interstate challengers to be the state’s most successful performer.

The Launceston Kart Club member said the state kart titles held once a year, were the ones all kart drivers wanted to win.

“I won double titles in 2007 and 2009 but probably the win in clubman heavy is the biggest achievement of all because it is the one I’ve always wanted to win,” he said.

“A lot of effort goes into it behind the scenes with nights spent in the shed working on engines and making sure the karts are prepared properly.”

Wyatt started racing karts aged nine and builds and tests kart engines for a living.

He said he had to juggle work for clients with his own preparation before the championships but had managed to get “the little things done right.”

“My dad was involved in karts since the 60s so I’ve been around go-kart tracks for as long as I can remember and it was part of my childhood growing up,” he said.
