Wright crashes out in France - from the Cairns Post

CAIRNS teenager Aidan Wright had his under-18 WorldKarting Championship campaign tempered by a double dose of crashes in France on the weekend.

The 16-year-old, who was the first Australian to compete in the prestigious championship, finished 12th in the opening round in Italy last month and entered the weekend’s round at Essay Circuit with high hopes of a top 10 result.

But after some promising runs in the heats he struck trouble when it really mattered, bowing out in the final and prerace final to finish the meet watching from the sidelines.

“I just came around a corner and someone jumped across a kerb and ran right into the side of me which ended my race,” Wright said, retelling the incident in the final.

“It’s unfortunate that I was involved in the crash, I felt as though I had a lot of pace. It has made me more eager to show the world what I can do in the final round in Italy.”
