Kiwi karters Arie Hutton and Aaron Marr claimed top ten finishes apiece at the fourth round of Australia’s CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol Edge in Newcastle on Sunday.

Marr, 15, ended up ninth in the Pro Junior/KF3 Final after qualifying 12th and starting and finishing the Pre-Final in eighth while Hutton, 16, qualified seventh but struggled with brake issues in the heats and Pre-Final before storming through the field from 17th to claim a hard-won 10th in the premier Prolight/KF1 Final.

The results see Marr retain his sixth place in the overall Pro Junior/KF3 series points standings after the penultimate round with Hutton – who has only completed four rounds held so far – now up to 23rd in ProLight/KF1.

Victorian Jake Spencer was able to maintain his series points lead in Prolight/KF1 despite arch-rival and reigning class champion Cian Fothergill dominating the heats and Pre-Final. Fothergill started the Final from pole but was slow away and didn’t get going again until the rest of the field had gone by.

Though he was able to work his way back up to second place he couldn’t quite find a way past Spencer- who himself had started the race from the rear of the grid after failing to finish the Pre-Final – giving the latter a six point advantage heading into the series final at Sydney’s Eastern Creek in September.

An eighth place finish meanwhile, was enough to preserve northern Queenslander Kel Treseder’s series points lead in Pro Gearbox/KZ2 class won by Tyler Greenbury from Matthew Wall and Macauley Jones.

Finally, Pro Junior/KF3 was won for the second time this season by Western Australian Jake Klarich with Joseph Mawson second and Brock Plumb third. By finishing the Final in fifth spot local Pierce Lehane did enough, however, to maintain his lead in the series points standigns from Mawson and Klarich

This year’s CIK Stars of Karting series presented by Castrol Edge is the strongest held in Australia in a number of years with over 80 competitors contesting the three core CIK classes (Prolight/KF1, Pro Gearbox/KZ2 and Pro Junior/KF3) and another 50 competing in the two support classes, Clubman and Junior National.
