Teen driver pleased with second in quality field - from the Gold Coast Bulletin

TSS student James Macken has continued to mix it with Australia’s best kart racers by securing his first podium since moving into the Pro Light ranks of the CIK Stars of Karting Series, presented by Castrol EDGE in Melbourne at the weekend.

After finishing seventh in the opening final, Macken started from the inside fourth row for the 27-lap main event. The 16-year-old managed to avoid the turn one carnage to lead the early running from South Australian Ben Edwards, Victorian Grant Smith and New Zealander Arie Hutton. Meanwhile, reigning series champion Cian Fothergill and current series leader Jake Spencer were charging their way from the back of the field.

Despite his best efforts, Macken was unable to hold the lead in the closing stages with Fothergill’s superior speed helping him snare victory, with Macken holding on to finish second ahead of Spencer.
