STATEMENT - PAUL RIGGS (updated with funeral details)

The Australian Karting Association (AKA) sadly acknowledges the death of one of its key officials in the Northern Territory today.

Paul Riggs, 53, who has been involved in the sport for more than 20 years in various roles from competitor to club official and more recently State Technical Inspector, passed away in the Darwin Hospital following a long illness this morning.

AKA president Simon Whiting said Riggs’ infectious enthusiasm for the sport of karting will be sorely missed.

“Paul was a fantastic member of the karting community, not just in Northern Territory but also across the country and he will be sorely missed,” said Whiting.

“He was very dedicated to, and very passionate about, the sport.

“Our sincerest sympathies go out to his wife Jacque and daughters Leanne and Zoe, along with his family and many friends across the country.”

The funeral will be held at Restheaven Chapel, 121 Amy Johnson Avenue, Marra (Darwin N.T.) on Monday December 6 at 11am.
