Toowoomba’s Tyler Greenbury cruises around the track during the CIK Stars of Karting Series at the weekend. INSET: Tyler Greenbury.
TOOWOOMBA driver Tyler Greenbury enjoyed a successful send off before flying out to Italy yesterday with victory in round three of the CIK Stars of Karting Series at the Ipswich Kart Club at the weekend.
Greenbury got the jump off the start line in the main event and fended off strong challenges from 2010 series champion Matthew Wall and Gladstone’s John Grother.
All three drivers had a share of the lead at different stages of the race but it was Greenbury who showed the superior speed aboard his new CRG kart, crossing the line 1.4 seconds clear of Wall.
“I couldn’t be happier with the debut of the CRG kart,” he said.
“I knew that I needed to get the lead as soon as possible and then protect it and control the race.”
It was a confidence boosting win for Greenbury who is the reigning series champion in the Pro Gearbox division.
Victory at the weekend elevated him to third in this year’s standings with two rounds remaining.
But his title defence will be put on hold while Greenbury competes against some of the world’s best drivers in a WSK Euro Series event in Italy next weekend.
“I’m really excited about the week that lies ahead but also a little bit nervous at the same time,” Greenbury said.
“To be racing against the likes of Davide Fore, Marco Ardigo and the many of the world’s best drivers is going to be an amazing experience.
“I’m looking forward to getting over there and learning from what they do over there so I can better myself.
“I think you can become a bit stale racing the same guys all of the time, you never stop learning but it’s more so the rate that you’re learning at.
“By getting the opportunity to race in Italy … I’m confident that I’ll come back a better driver.”
