Slick chicks in it for kicks – From the Hobart Mercury

IT’S not the speed that Zhane´ Ripper likes most about being a kart racer, nor is it the many friends she has made in the sport.

The thing she likes most is ‘‘kicking the boys’ butts,’’ Zhane´ said yesterday.

‘‘Some of them don’t like it, but it’s not all about winning.’’

The 15-year-old Hobart schoolgirl and her racing mates Tori Hildyard, 15, and Bree Hobden, 14, are Tasmania’s fastest girls, and they are building up to an assault on Australia’s biggest all-female kart racing event in NSW in January.
It is a long road to Lithgow, and is proving just as busy off the track as on.

The girls have the pedal to the metal raising money to fund their foray, running raffles, barbecues, selling sports tickets and chocolates, anything to raise a buck.

The talented trio will be in action this weekend competing at the annual Rising Star meeting at Orielton Raceway, with practice today and racing tomorrow.
