PRE-FINALS COMPLETE AT NSW CHAMPIONSHIPS

The pre-finals are complete at the New South Wales State Championships being hosted by the Combined Districts Kart Club in Lithgow.

2013 New South Wales State Championships
Lismore, NSW

Senior National
1. Jason Newman
2. Darren Harris
3. Matthew Pritchard
4. James Foster
5. Andrew Mitchell
Race Notes: National Champion Jason Newman emerged from the opening lap as the leader. Unfortunately an incident on the second lap involving Royce Sutherland, Monique Millmore and Ben Edwards brought about the red flag. At the restart there was disappointment for front-runner Aaron Giuntini when his kart failed to re-fire. Newman led the way ahead of Chris Farkas. When Farkas and Newman battled for the lead into the final turn Farkas spun in front of the field and was collected by Jake Gleeson as karts speared in all directions. From there, Newman was unchallenged on his way to victory.

Rookies
1. Jordan Caruso
2. Cody Brewczynski
3. Harrison Kilpatrick
4. Jai Sparey
5. Tommy Harradine
Race Notes: Victorian Jordan Caruso led Jace Matthews during the early laps of the Rookies pre-final with Cody Brewczynski right in the mix as well. Thomas Davies and Matthews came together midway through the race dropping them both well down the order. Caruso and Brewczynski were separated by centimetres for the final 10 laps before Caruso took a narrow victory.

Junior Rotax

Race Notes: National Champion James Abela took advantage of his front row start in the pre-final of Junior Rotax as he was pursued by Stefan Stankovic and Cody Gillis. An incident on lap two brought about the red flag while the drivers involved were attended to by medical personnel. Following the restart it became a six-way fight for the lead. In the end, it was Abela who crossed the line first following a last lap pass to regain the lead.

Clubman Heavy
1. Jason Varley
2. Shayne Piper
3. Daniel Nolan
4. Brendan Nelson
5. Brett Robinson
Race Notes: Following a frantic start to the Clubman Heavy pre-final it was two-time Australian Champion Jason Varley who led his CRG team-mate Jason Hryniuk. ART Grand Prix driver Aaron Borg slotted into third place shortly after to be then followed by Shayne Piper. At mid-race a 12-kart freight train formed at the front of the field headed by Varley, Aaron Borg, Brendan Nelson, Shayne Piper and Daniel Nolan. Despite the best efforts of his opposition, Varley held on for the win.

Race Notes: The Rotax Light pre-final was another Pierce Lehane domination aboard his TF Race Engines Redspeed.

Leopard Heavy
1.Joshua Pontello
2. Kris Walton
3. Shay Mayes
4. Jason Hryniuk
5. Matthew Endres
Race Notes: New South Wales veterans Joshua Pontello and Jason Hryniuk led National Champion Kris Walton and Shay Mayes during the early laps of the Leopard Heavy pre-final. While he was shadowed throughout the entire 15-lap distance by his pursuers, Pontello held on for a narrow victory.

Junior National Heavy
1. Cody Gillis
2. Samuel Schwarz
3. Jordan Boys
4. Jeffrey Rahaley
5. Aaron Cameron
Race Notes: In an action-packed Junior National Heavy pre-final it was Tony Kart driver Cody Gillis who left his opposition to battle it out behind him, and battle they did. At times drivers raced three-wide down the main straight allowing Gillis to cruise to victory.

Clubman Light

3. Brock Plumb
4. Kyle Clews
5. Jaie Robson
Race Notes: Former National Champion James Sera was hounded by the reigning National Champion Jake Coleman throughout the Clubman Light pre-final. Behind them there was plenty of action with Steeley Noda-Barnes. Brock Plumb, Josh Smith and Kyle Clews, who is campaigning a nine-year old Monaco, battling for the minor positions. When Josh Smith and Dean O’Brien came together at the end of the back straight it brought about a red flag situation setting up a seven-lap dash to the finish. Both drivers were uninjured. At the restart, James Sera led home a four-kart freight train before crossing the line several kart-lengths clear of Coleman.

Rotax Heavy

4. Mason Barbera

Race Notes: Queenslander Chris Farkas led a Tony Kart one-two across the line with Michael Saller, who was given a mechanical defect flag on the final lap in the Rotax Heavy pre-final. The CRG pair of Craig Stauner and Mason Barbera filled third and fourth.

Junior Clubman

2. Bryce Fullwood
3. Joshua Car
4. Chris Sandrone
5. Jake Klein
Race Notes: Kosmic driver Harry Hayek took full advantage of his pole position to lead the way in the Junior Clubman pre-final. At mid-race distance he was joined near the front of the field by Bryce Fullwood and Joshua Car to make it a three-way battle for the lead.

Clubman Super Heavy
1. Scott Simpson
2. Mason Barbera
3. Bradley Moody
4. Ben McKinlay
5. David Knight
Race Notes: The Queensland pair of Scott Simpson and Mason Barbera were a class above the field in the Clubman Super Heavy pre-final. The duo distanced themselves from the pack early in the running before Simpson took the top honours. After an intense battle, it was Bradley Moody who crossed the line third.

Leopard Light

4. Nicholas Rowe
5. Ben Stewart
Race Notes: The record books show that Pierce Lehane won the Leopard Light pre-final, and led every lap, but the opening lap was a frantic one with Lehane and Plumb swapping the front running on three occasions. From that point, Lehane was unstoppable on his way to victory to claim his second pole position for tomorrow’s championship finals. James Sera had a lonely race in second while Aaron Borg finished third.

Race Notes: A capacity grid of 36 karts faced the starter in the Junior National Light pre-final nothing separating the top 14 drivers during the opening half of the 15-lap journey. Victorian Aaron Cameron benefited from the likes of Dylan Hollis, John Iafolla, Jayden Ojeda and William Brown battling for the minor positions. Over the closing stages, Ojeda and Hollis closed in on Cameron to challenge for the lead. Following several lead changes, it was Ojeda who held on for the win.
