ROTAX PRO TOUR HEADS TO THE BORDER CITY FOR PENULTIMATE ROUND

The National Rotax Pro Tour Series returns to Albury Wodonga this weekend for its second to last round for 2018 and several locals are expected to be leading the charge.

Former World #3 and Dunlop Super2 Supercars Series regular, Jordan Boys will make his comeback to karting in the DD2 category. After a season being focused on the Supercar, it will be a different proposition for Boys, who will be joined in the category by fellow Albury-Wodonga racer, Sam Dunlevey.

The duo will be up against two rapid females, especially Taylah Agius – the Gold Coaster who became the first female to set a DD2 pole position in Australia and Kiwi, Madeline Stewart – who last year won a round of the Series in Rotax Light in Adelaide.

Albury racer, Danny Wright has been moving forward over recent rounds in DD2 Masters and on home soil can be expected to be among the front runners from the get-go. He comes up against runaway Series leader and current World Champion, Troy Woolston from Melbourne.

A world class field of Rotax Light will form the biggest field over the weekend – including Kurtis Read who is the son of former Australian Top Fuel Drag Racing Champion, Phil.Young Sydney-sider Reece Cohen has been at the head of the field for much of the season and leads the pointscore, while Cameron Longmore has been threatening a big result all season and is in with a great chance should the cards fall his way. Queenslander, Ben Jurczak sits second on points coming into the weekend and is hopeful of gaining some ground on Cohen.

In Rotax Heavy, former Light competitor Paul Rodgers will mix things up this weekend making the move into the Heavy division. Season long points leader Lane Moore won’t have it all his own way with the likes of Rodgers in the field, also Zac van Leeuwestyn who is looking to push ahead after a podium result the last time out.

James Wharton returns to Junior Max after finishing on the podium in the European Rotax Challenge last weekend in Austria. Another Junior Max driver returning from overseas is points leader, Jaiden Pope who raced in New Zealand last weekend and regular visitor from New Zealand, Ryan Wood will be looking to continue his good form.

In the Mini Max fight for a place at the Rotax Max Grand Final Challenge in Brazil, Costa Toparis has excelled throughout the season and has all but wrapped up his ticket to the World Finals. The Goulburn (NSW) based racer will have a tough challenge from his fellow New South Welshman, Cody Maynes-Rutty who is still in with a mathematical chance of qualifying with two rounds to go.

Meantime in Micro Max the fight for the top step of the points podium couldn’t be tighter between Jake Rutkowski and Peter Bouzinelos. Just 300 points separates the pair in the youngest Rotax Pro Tour podium. The continued improvement from Max Walton and the Burns twins – Jaxson and Jenson – could prove to be a fly in Rutkowski and Bouzinlos’ ointment, while James Anagnostiadis continues to come to grips with Rotax racing and should be competitive at Albury. South Australian Noah Enright is a new entrant to the category this weekend.

Action begins on Friday with practice before qualifying and heat racing on Saturday and Finals on Sunday.

Entry to the circuit on Sheathers Road, Wodonga is free to the public or Sunday’s action can be caught through the Rotax Pro Tour Livestream on Facebook at www.facebook.com/rotaxprotour.
