ROTAX NATIONALS - SATURDAY NOTEBOOK

Phone ringing hot
While his main focus from a business perspective this weekend is the Rotax Nationals, IKD boss Ian Black had his mind elsewhere this morning. Black’s son Jack was playing in his AFL Grand final for the Hawkesbury Saints Under 13s. With phone calls all throughout the game from his wife, Ian was kept up to date on the score and with his son kicking four goals the Saints took the win to become the 2011 Premiers.

Brothers don’t get much closer
It’s a well-known fact that the bond between brothers is a close one, and the Ward brothers are no exception. In DD2 qualifying today, it was Damian Ward who set the second fastest time with a 32.077 second lap time – one one-thousandth of a second over his younger sibling Lucas.

Wall-e and his old favourite
Matthew Wall is this weekend campaigning his ‘old favourite’. The ten-time Australian Champion is this weekend campaigning the an older model Arrow kart that he has driven to victory at many major events including the 2009 Rotax Nationals at Eastern Creek.

Geelong looking great
Once again Dominic Albanese and his team at the Geelong Karting Club have done a fantastic job on preparing the Beckley Park complex for this weekend’s Rotax Nationals. The entire circuit looks second to none and a real credit to everyone involved.
