BRODY Sonter brought his recent experience to the track for the 2013 Prime Rentals Coalfields Titles last weekend.

Sonter, along with Blake McDonald, who competed at the Lismore Young Guns Titles earlier this month, was back on the track in Emerald for the two-day Coalfields Titles.

Dad Jeromy Sonter said competing at the Lismore titles had proved an invaluable experience for the boys, noting a definite improvement in their racing.

“They did well. Saturday was both Brody’s and Blake’s best performance times,” Sonter said.

“Coming off Lismore to Emerald, they dropped two seconds off their best times.”

Sonter, too, had success at the weekend, taking second in the Queensland Sportsman Heavy class behind Mackay’s Andrew Stevenson.

Emerald Kart Club spokesman Brett Aird said the weekend ran smoothly with plenty of competitors coming from around Queensland to compete.

“It was a good weekend,” Aird said.

“It was good racing in general… but there were a couple of incidents unfortunately.”

Racing got under way Saturday morning with the Cadets class but the race was immediately delayed when Emerald’s Harry Armstrong flipped his kart just after entering the track.

“He walked away from it but missed out (on competing again in that race),” Aird said.

But the action wasn’t all over for Harry, whose father Chris competed in the Tag 125 Heavy.

Jacinta Hooey, from Ipswich, continued through to the finals in the Cadets class and couldn’t be caught. She finished with a comfortable lead over her rivals.

“She has had a fair bit of experience,” Aird said.

“She races in a pretty big field down there (in Ipswich).”

Aird praised the number of spectators who came out on the weekend.

“The amount of spectators astounds other racers from other clubs,” Aird said.
