A sneak peak at Adam Hughes' 2013 livery
REIGNING Pro Light (KF) Champion Adam Hughes will make a return to the CIK Stars of Karting Series this weekend for the second round at South Australia’s Bolivar Raceway.
Hughes will make his debut in the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) category aboard his IAME powered Kosmic Kart, under the JAM Racing banner.
After missing the opening round due to budget restrictions, Hughes has since found support from CORE IT Solutions, Inline Engineering Services, Freem Racing Apparel and fanfuel.com.au to help get him get back on the grid. He will also have backing from regular sponsors Remo Racing, Kosmic Karts and MKC Engines.
“I can’t wait to get out there and have a crack at racing Pro Gearbox for the first time,” said Hughes.
“I never thought I’d be able to compete in this class but with the help of Adam Garnaut at CORE IT and Nick Percat it has become a reality.
“Pro Gearbox is a new challenge for me, and the competition is really tough, but I was really happy with the kart after initial testing so I’m ready to get amongst it.”
2011 Bathurst 1000 champion Percat will accompany Hughes to Bolivar Raceway this weekend, providing feedback and assisting with kart setup. The pair has been testing together for the past four weeks to get Hughes up to speed in the KZ2, in the hope of obtaining a top 10 result.
“I’ve followed the CIK Stars of Karting Series over the past couple of years with great interest so I’m really looking forward to being involved for the first time,” said Percat.
“I grew up racing karts at Bolivar Raceway so it’s awesome to be heading back there and teaming up with Adam.
“I know how serious he takes his kart racing and while we’re both hoping for a solid result, we understand that there is still a lot of learning to do.”
Percat steps in for Hughes’ regular number one mechanic Josh Brooker for this round of the series.
“Josh spent many hours building the KZ Kosmic Kart package for me, so while he can’t make it to the event I owe him a huge thanks for helping me get back into the CIK Stars of Karting Series this weekend.” said Hughes.
Official practice starts on Friday April 26th, with racing following on the Saturday and Sunday.
