Readers ready to Race for Daniel
SIX lucky Gympie Times readers will have the ride of their life when they take part in a special time trial at the Cooloola Coast Kart Club.
The winning readers Yani Mouland Vail, Braydan Gibbs, Jarred Brook, Dean Bull, Geoff Stolberg and Myles Borchardt will race for top prizes.
The Harrington Doyle Racing – Race for Daniel Gympie Times competition, will be staged in three age groups. Time trials start this Sunday at the CCKC in the Gympie Industrial Estate, from 1.30pm.
Last week the celebrity challenge was finalised with race car driver Mark Pagel clocking fastest time.
Now the readers will compete to see if they can knock Pagel off his perch and be the overall winner.
The winners of each age group, 10-12, 13-15 and 16+ will be announced at the Harrington Doyle Racing – Race for Daniel on January 15.
The overall best time winner will drive a lap of honour on the day.
CCKC promotions and marketing coordinator, Kym Coomber said the celebrity time trials had been funny.
“It has been thrills and spills all the way,” he said.
“Some come in very confident, but that changes once they realise what’s involved, it’s not just driver ability but technical (aspects), as well as knowing how to brake and accelerate, take corners and steer,” she said.
“It’s been funny watching them take a corner, oversteering and leaving the track.”
Coomber said the Spraytech corner was the hardest, and the one that would trip the readers up the most due to its angles and speed.
Pre-entry for the Race for Daniel should start next week.
Coomber explained it would be the first karting race meet for Queensland and racers from Cairns to Sydney were expected to compete.
“It’s the biggest for the year and a lead-up to the Rotax Pro Tour in March.”
The race is expected to bring hundreds to the region.
