Raceway track to host major events – From the Whitsunday Times

From the Whitsunday Times – (http://www.whitsundaytimes.com.au/story/2012/03/15/raceway-track-to-host-major-events/)

THE Whitsunday Go Kart Club held its first official race meeting at the new raceway track on Sunday March 11. Club president Adam Stroud said competitors came from as far afield as Gladstone, Rockhampton, Moranbah, Townsville and Charters Towers to take part in the event.

“We’re rapt. We’ve really only been able to give four days notice to say “yes we’re open” so that’s pretty impressive for people to come from that far away,” he said.

Officials from the Australian Karting Association also travelled to inspect the track, giving it the full tick of approval prior to the race. In fact, junior vice president of AKA QLD Steve Pattel was so impressed with the facility he announced it will host some major events. Mr Pattel said the closed QLD state titles would take place here in September 2013 with the open QLD state titles to follow in July 2014.

“I’ve been all round the country and this is up there with the best of the facilities,” Mr Pattel said.

“As soon as I walked in the place I knew it would be more than capable of hosting those events.”

Mr Stroud said these were potentially “massive” events.

“The state titles will generate a massive amount of revenue for the area. We’d expect upwards of 500 people to come to town for that weekend, which is obviously good for the pubs, clubs and accommodation,” he said.

The Go Kart Club will now hold an official race meeting every month with details to be posted on the club’s website. For more information visit www.wmsc.org.au.
