Sergio Perez uses karting to get back into shape

In a matter of weeks Sauber Formula One driver Sergio Perez experienced the high of scoring his first ever championship points in Barcelona and the low of being involved in a frightening accident during qualifying in Monaco.

After missing the Monaco Grand Prix due to the qualifying accident, Perez has used the purest form of motorsport, karting, to get up to speed for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal.

In yesterday’s pre-event press conference Perez informed the media of his rapid road to recovery.

“They released me from hospital on Monday. I stayed in Monaco for two or three days, just working and recovering from the accident,” said Perez.

“Then I flew to Zurich to do another check-up with a clinic there and after that everything was okay. Then I went back to Mexico, which is very close from here. I was some days at home, which was very positive for me. Then I went to do karting on Monday and Tuesday so I am already okay.”

He then went on to say that it always helps to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible after a big crash and karting is a great way to get back up to speed quickly.
