PARTICIPATION RATES FOR 2013 FIRST QUARTER

The participation rates of the Australian Karting Association for the opening quarter of 2013 are available.

Despite a high level of economic uncertainty, there has only been a decline of 3 percent nationally.

South Australia has experienced the highest percentage increase of all states, with a 28.36% increase in participation. However, this would be somewhat expected given that the state hosted the national championships and a preluding shakedown event in the opening quarter.

Queensland’s increase in participation of 12% is a very encouraging sign for the sport in the Sunshine State. The early months of 2013 has seen a number of clubs affected by bad weather, so to have an increase of any sort on the previous 12 months is believed to be a good sign.

New South Wales has remained steady compared to the opening three months of 2012, while Victoria has experienced a slight decline. This decline is attributed to the fact that Easter fell on the final weekend of March, meaning very few clubs held their monthly Club Day event.

Tasmania was affected by several natural disasters, and the highest unemployment rate in the country, while Western Australia also experienced a slight decline on previous years.
