PARTICIPATION RATES – APRIL TO JULY

Despite the tough economic times faced by Australians, the participation rate in the Australian Karting Association once again experienced a slight increase over the past quarter.

In comparison to the same point of the year in 2011, the participation rate currently sits at an increase of 2.89%, adjusted to 1.93% when considering the participation figures of Endurance racing wasn’t recorded last year.

This increase represents a total of 519 more competitors taking to the track in comparison to the same point in 2011.

When analysing the participation rates, there are a number of aspects that are significant:

  • Junior National has experienced growth in all but one state to now almost surpass Clubman as the most participated category in the country
  • The TaG Restricted category continues to be one of the largest growth areas with participation rates up more than 20%, or 600 competitors, on the year to date in 2011. When compared to the same point in 2010, the category has had 1023 more participants in 2012 representing a 38% increase from 2010
  • While the Sportsman 125 category has grown significantly, this is offset by the decline in the stand alone 125 categories, to get a clearer picture the participation rate of Open 125 should have these categories bundled together. When combining these categories it equates to a 1% increase (35 competitors) compared to the same point of 2011
