OUTCOMES FROM NATIONAL KARTING COUNCIL CONFERENCE

The National Karting Council (NKC) of the Australian Karting Association (AKA) met in Melbourne last weekend.

The two-day conference, had a number of positive outcomes to assist with future planning and development of the sport.

Below is an outline of some of the key discussion points and outcomes from the conference.

• The Governance Model has been evolved further with the final draft due for distribution to the States.

• The future engine committees (Cadet/Rookie, Junior National/National/Clubman) briefed the NKC on progress to date. Specifications have been finalised and tender documentation has been drafted for review.

• Approval was given for the AKA to enter negotiations to purchase a property in Penrith for use as a National Office. This will be a co-ownership agreement with Karting NSW.

• The 2013 to 2016 Tyre Tender Process was discussed with three agreed categories going to tender.
  Group 1: TAG/Sportsman 125cc
  Group 2: Clubman/Restricted 125cc
  Group 3: Cadet/Rookie/Junior National.The test procedure has also been reviewed with significant changes being introduced to the time period between tests and the number of laps groups 2 and 3 will be tested over.

• Approval was given to develop real time credit card payments on CM:S for both licence and race entry payments.

• The information received from members from the recently membership survey will be implemented into the ongoing strategic planning document that is currently under construction.

• A view to improve the State Championship product, with concepts regarding schedule, time, number of classes and possibly reducing the racing to two days was discussed with future work to continue down this path.

• Ongoing discussions have been held with Yamaha and a resolution is expected very shortly regarding the Yamaha barrel issues that are currently being experienced in the Clubman category.

• The National Championship preparations are progressing with the Facility Infrastructure very close to being fully completed. Supplementary Regulations will be released shortly.

• Side pod numbers and background regulations have now been amended for simplicity.

• Addendum 13, 14 and 15 will be released shortly dealing with the outcomes from the meeting requiring immediate implementation.
• The rules relating to Yellow Flags and drivers not slowing/obeying was also raised and is currently being investigated .
