LOCAL karter Jason Faint will head into this season of karting with the pedal to the floor.

He is setting off for New Zealand tomorrow to compete at this year’s Mi Sedaap instant noodles-sponsored CIK Trophy of New Zealand meeting.

Faint will be among three Australian karters crossing the ditch to compete at the weekend.

Faint, competing in the KZ2 class, is looking forward to some tough competition.

“Travelling to New Zealand for this event is an opportunity for me to practise and be involved in some international competition,” he said.

“It’s a lead-up event for the start of the five-round Australian CIK series, which starts in South Australia next month.”

No stranger to the international karting platform, Faint would like to grab a top-five finish in New Zealand, which would secure him entry to a meeting in Los Angeles at the end of the year.

“I am trying to branch out from local events and get as many national and international events under my belt,” he said.

“I get older every day, so while I am still young I may as well go fast and hard.”

After returning from New Zealand, Faint will prepare for round one of the CIK Karting series in South Australia.

“Joining me in this series will be Cian Fothergill and Johnny Grother, who competes in the KZ2 class also,” he said.

“Grother and I can expect some tough and tight competition, with over 35 karters already registered for South Australia. “This means some people might not even get a run, competition will be that tight, but thanks to New Zealand I will be prepared.”

The season is filling up fast for Faint, with the CIK series and the state championships, which will be held in Gladstone at Easter, coming up soon.

Faint is seeking the support of the community this season.

“Karting is growing, so it would be good to see the community of Gladstone get behind it,” he said.
