Organisers of the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE, have been forced to alter the venue for the final round of the 2011 series.

The event, originally scheduled for September 17/18, had been delayed due to ongoing interruptions with the resurfacing of Sydney’s Eastern Creek track. Despite assurances by the contractor completing the works that the circuit would be suitable for racing by the middle of this month, this is now not the case.

Following consultation with the competitors and team principals in the series, it has been decided that the final round of the series will be contested at Newcastle’s Mount Sugarloaf Raceway on October 15/16.

“This change has been through no fault of the North Shore Kart Club or of the circuit owner but has come about through the recommendation of a Site Engineer who has now stipulated that the track shall not be used for 12 weeks after it was laid. This is a new condition as previously it was suggested that a three-week time period would be sufficient,” said International Karting Committee Chairman Craig Denton.

“We would like to acknowledge the fantastic support and assistance from Garry Holt (Eastern Creek Karts) and Peter Galvin (North Shore Kart Club) in this difficult time and look forward to returning to Eastern Creek in 2012.

“In all of the series’ that the IKC have ever been involved with, we have never faced such a challenging situation. We have always looked to make the best decision for everyone involved in the series and look forward to a great final round in Newcastle.”

The final round of the 2011 series will shown on SPEED (Foxtel 505) later this year with the broadcast being produced by the team at Castle Media with the Executive Producer being Murray Lomax, who is a former Executive Producer of the V8 Supercar telecasts.

Supplementary Regulations and other information will be available in the coming days.
