HDR's new KF1 Pro Light entries will race number 5 and 6 in the 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series
Harrington Doyle Racing’s two new Pro Light (KF1) entries will race under numbers 5 and 6 in the 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series.
“Being supported by Orrcon Steel for our fifth consecutive year of racing, we were keen to have these numbers if they were available,” said Team Manager Craig Doyle.
“Not thinking of the consequences or realising that we had bought Scott May’s (#6) 2011 kart and engine for our practice set-up and more recently Adian Wright’s engines (#5), we were talking about what the new HDR livery was going to look like and how we were going to market ourselves in 2012.
“One idea that came up was to choose some new relevant racing numbers for our new project. Having numbers 5 and 6 would be another link back to the Orrcon Steel supported V8 Supercar FPR Falcons, and it will be our 5th consecutive year with Orrcon Steel at HDR in 2012, so we’ve registered this with CIK and had the numbers confirmed. Brooke will race under HDR #5 and Jarryd will race under HDR #6.”

After several months of careful planning and discussions, the schedule for 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series has been finalised.
In a return to the traditional series opener of Australia’s elite series, round one will be held at the Bolivar Raceway in South Australia on February 25/26. This event will kick start a motorsport festival for the state with round one of the V8 Supercars Championship, the Clipsal 500, being held the following weekend on the Adelaide Street Circuit.
Round two will be contested at the Mount Sugarloaf circuit in Newcastle on April 21/22 ahead of round three being hosted by the Ipswich Kart Club on the weekend of June 16/17. The Queensland round is one week after the adjacent Willowbank Raceway hosts the Winternationals – Australia’s largest drag racing event.
The series then moves to Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway on the final weekend in July (28/29) to compete on the recently resurfaced track for the first time.
The picturesque Port Melbourne venue, home of the Go-Kart Club of Victoria, will host the Finale on September 22/23. This date is one week after the nearby Sandown Raceway hosts the opening V8 Supercar endurance event of 2012 – the Sandown 500.
“These dates and venues have been carefully planned to provide our competitors and the series with the maximum possible exposure alongside other mainstream motorsport events throughout the year,” said International Karting Committee Chairman Craig Denton.
“The dates have also been planned around other major Karting events as well, to ensure there are no clashes. I’d like to thank all of the respective State Karting Councils for their support of the final dates.
“We look forward to continuing to build on the potential of the series that has been built up over the past few years and making 2012 even bigger and better.”
