NEW ERA DAWNS FOR JUNIOR CLUBMAN

A new era awaits Junior Clubman drivers in 2012, when they will once again be aligned with their senior ‘big brothers – and sisters’.

Next year sees the re-introduction of ‘traditional’ Clubman racing back into the junior ranks with the air-cooled Yamaha KT100SE, KT100SD or KT100SEC engines being the only models used in the category.

The new ruling ensures there will be more continuity between the junior and senior ranks, along with an easy transition through the ranks for the competitors.

“The Yamaha KT100S, or Clubman as it is more commonly known, engine has been somewhat of a ‘staple’ for Australian karting for over 20 years now and it will be great for our junior drivers to once again be a strong part of the Clubman ranks,” said Australian Karting Association’s Craig Denton.

“Our Junior Clubman competitors can now simply take the equipment they’re using and move into the senior ranks rather than purchasing a new engine.

“It also allows the opportunity for more of a second-hand market for the Clubman engine rather than just the senior ranks and we look forward to some great Junior Clubman racing for years to come.”

The opening round of Tasmania’s Statewide Series hosted by the Circular Head Kart Club on January 14/15 will be the first time the ‘new look’ Junior Clubman category will take to an Australian circuit followed by annual Junior Top Gun Events hosted by the Oakleigh Go-Kart Racing Club in Victoria on January 20/21.
