Kosmic Racing Australia will have the pleasure of another new driver for round 4 of the CIK Stars of Karting Series to be held at Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway this weekend.

Young Queenslander Josh Smith has made the switch from Green back to Blue, Smith raced the Kosmic chassis for the Tracksa team in his debut year but moved to the Tony Kart with Matt Greenbury earlier in 2012.

With both brands produced by the OTK group, the switch for Smith will be a seamless one as he is very familure with the equipment.

“Our first year was comfortable in the Kosmic and then the move to the Tony kart was again very easy. Matt was very good to us and we would like to thank him for his effort. I am really looking forward to working with the Factory Kosmic team both here in Australia and hopefully overseas,” said Smith.

Barry Smith, Josh’s father was a key figure in the move to Kosmic Racing Australia.

“We really like the idea of the full team environment and after chatting with Peter Galvin and Cian Fothergill we decided that the move would be good for the future. So far Josh has done one test day with the team and Josh went extremely well, he came back home with a whole new outlook and he is very positive about his new team,” said Smith.

Round Four will see the team compete at the home track for many of its drivers. Matt Waters makes his comeback to CIK aboard his Kosmic Mercury after struggling with rib damage. Matt competed up in Darwin where he managed second in Clubman Light in his Kosmic TS30 at the Northern Territory State titles and was very fast at the Nationals setting the second fastest time of the final as he drove through the field after a DNF earlier in the meeting.

The team to race at Round Four of the CIK Stars of Karting Series comprises of the following drivers:
Matt Waters Pro Light (KF1)
Cian Fothergill Pro Light (KF1)
Daniel Holihan Pro Light (KF1)
Dimitri Agathos Pro Junior (KF3)
Lachlan Gibbons Pro Junior (KF3)
Josh Smith Pro Junior (KF3)
Tom Chitty Pro Junior (KF3) (making his debut in the class)
Matt Boylan Australian Leopard Challenge

“I would like to wish all the drivers the best of luck, We have the technical equipment to get the job done and I am sure the drivers will be at their best for this round,” said Team Manager Peter Galvin.

The team also has a change to it’s name from the previous Kosmic Racing NSW to Kosmic Racing Australia to highlight the influx of drivers from states other than New South Wales, effective this weekend.

“Due to the team’s expansion we have decided to change our name to Kosmic Racing Australia. This name better suits our team with drivers now part of the team from all over Australia. Remo Luciani from Remo Racing the Kosmic kart Importer has given us his blessing for this name change,” said Galvin.
