Mount Gambier Karting Club held their July meet at Glenburnie last Sunday. Good weather prevailed with only a small amount of water on the track making conditions good for racing.
The Rookies was won by Kirby Hillyer who has had some success over the border as well in the Victoria Series. Hillyer was closely followed by Shane Moreland who also has been gaining a lot of experience in the Festival State Cup series. Erin Powell came in third and raced well all day after a short break from racing. Erin was the only female to take to the track in the meet.
Cadets was won clearly by Troy Moreland with Bronson Boult second place and third place Angus Hayden-Simpson a great effort by the two karters in their first season of racing.
Junior National Light was a hot contest but Morgan Feast came in first for the day followed by Callan Belmonte and third was Joshua Munn. All three karters have been racing in various meets in both Victoria and South Australia with good results.
Junior National Heavy saw strong competition with Sam Baker winning first place followed by Bradley Saffin in second both drivers have also been taking part in meets in both the Victorian Series and the Festival State Cup in South Australia.
Sportsman Light had some great racing for spectators with plenty of action from drivers. Ashley Lear was clear winner though followed in second place by John D’Onghia and third place Craig Moreland, fourth was Neil Baker and fifth place was Scott Moreland.
Sportsman Heavy was won by Kelvin Moreland racing with the Sportsman Light added to a great days racing.
Sportsman Restricted Heavy was won by Owen Edge and second place was Hayden Lynch, Senior National Light was won by Jamie Weston.
Tag Restricted Heavy was won by Jack Cole who was a welcome return to racing after a short break. It was fantastic to see the racing Veteran return to the track.
Preparation is underway for the State Titles that will be held at the Mount Gambier Karting Club in early November. The titles are expected to attract a huge number of entries so the Committee is in full swing in preparation for this event.
