LOCAL DRIVER CLEANS UP AT YOUNG GUNS TITLES

Chris Burley

Chris Burley on his way to victory in the KAOS Karting Lismore Young Guns Titles at the weekend

After six attempts Casino teenager Chris Burley finally broke through to claim his maiden victory at the prestigious KAOS Karting Lismore Young Guns Titles in Northern New South Wales at the weekend.

The 14 year-old fended off the challenges from reigning Queensland State Champion Lachlan McHugh to win the Junior National Light category.

For Burley, the victory is the biggest of his career.

“I’m absolutely stoked, finally I have won at the Young Guns Title,” said Burley.

“For the past five years, I have finished sixth to just miss out on the podium, now to be standing on the top step is just amazing.

“Without the support of my family, especially Dad and my brother who spend more time as mechanics for me than racing themselves, KAOS Karting, GA Engines, Richmond Valley Meats and Car Sound FX none of this would be possible.”

Not content with just one victory the St Marys High School student made it two wins in the one event, when he proved superior in the Junior National Pro category aboard his Australian-made Arrow Kart.

Last year’s CIK Stars of Karting Series Pro Junior (KF3) Runner-up Brock Plumb was victorious with a superb drive from 18th on the grid to cross the line first in the Junior National Heavy category.

Plumb also finished runner-up in the Junior Max category behind Ashlon Gardner.

In the Midgets category it was Declan Fraser who took the overall win, while young Jack Doohan and Josh Radford had a great battle for the honour of crossing the line as the best placed ‘P-plater’.  Following numerous passes, it was Doohan who got the upper hand in that battle.

Mitchell Adams took out the Rookies category ahead of Zane Goddard with Flynn Adams crossing the line as the best placed ‘P-plater’.
