Coffs Harbour champion driver Bradley Moody will be one to watch this weekend at the New South Wales Open Sprint Karting Championships.

THE rev of engines and smell of burning rubber will fill the air at the Coffs Harbour Kart track this weekend for the NSW Open Sprint Karting Championships.

More than 250 drivers from across the country will be on the Coffs Coast to compete at one of the sports blue riband events.

Drivers from as young as ten all the way up to the sports more experienced heads will be in action at the championships reaching speeds in excess of 110 kmh around the 670 metre circuit.

It is the first time in many years that the Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club will host the event and with 13 categories being contested there will be plenty of action.

Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club’s President Troy Brown says the events reach extends further than just the local Karting community.

“There is no doubt that this event is the largest we’ve had here in Coffs Harbour for many years, it’s fantastic that we’ve been given the opportunity to host such a prestigious event,” said Brown.

“With drivers, teams and families arriving from today to begin practice on Wednesday we estimate that the event will inject more than $500,000 into the local economy.

“We expect that a number of these people will take the opportunity to take in some of the great sights of the Coffs Coast.”

Qualifying gets underway on Friday morning with racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
