BACK ON TRACK: Drivers from across north Queensland will converge on the Whitsunday Raceway for the Whitsunday Motosports Club’s first karting race meet of the year this weekend. Whitsunday driver Duncan Robb kept ahead of competitor Terry Archer at during last year’s Whitsunday Motosports Club kart championships.

THE karting contingent of the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club will be holding their first race meeting of the year at the Whitsunday Raceway this Sunday.

The single day event attracts kart drivers from across the north Queensland region, with beginners right up to the very best veterans of the sport chasing podium finishes in all classes.

Whitsunday Moto Sports Club kart vice president Kate Taylor said the first race meeting was always an exciting event.

“Many drivers are itching to get back in their karts after the Christmas break and it always makes for a great day of racing,” she said.

“We are expecting a great line-up of drivers from the junior cadets right through the senior classes to compete.”

Gates to the raceway will open at 7am with racing to start at approximately 10am.

The canteen will be open and spectators are welcome to make the most of the track side seating to catch a glimpse of some fast-paced karting action.

Taylor said new members were encouraged to attend the event and join the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club.

“Drivers can start karting at the age of seven and we have been seeing an increasing number of girls getting into the sport which is great,” she said.

“The club is very welcoming and we would be happy to organise a come and try day for new drivers if the interest is there.”

The Whitsunday Moto Sports Club will also be hosting the Kart Queensland State Titles at the raceway from July 11-13. The event will be open to all go-kart drivers from across the country.
