ENGINES are being revved and helmets secured as another bonanza karting competition in Lismore prepares for the green light.

Lismore Kart Club’s 2013 Young Guns Titles will start tomorrow, with some exciting action again in store.

Drivers will practise on the track at the Lismore Showground today in readiness for the two-day event, which has attracted entries from as far away as Darwin.

Club president Di Smith said she was looking forward to seeing some of the country’s best young racers in action.

“I am very excited,” she said.

“The weekend is awesome for these kids because it gives them the opportunity to see what a major racing event is like.

“It is hard work organising it but I am looking forward to it.”

Racers aged 7 to 16 are taking part in the tournament which has run for several years.

They will contest races in different classes, with a host of prizes and trophies on offer.

Entries have been received from across New South Wales and Queensland.

The high-quality roster includes national and state-level representatives.

Smith said the event seemed to be growing more popular each year.

“I think it just word of mouth that helps us,” she said.

“People hear what a great event it is and they tell others about it.

“I just love the kids, really. When they take their helmets off and you see the grins on their faces, it makes it worthwhile.”

A strong contingent of about 30 Far North Coast riders will be involved.

Smith said she was delighted the contest was shaping up to be another success.

“I am really proud that we have such a great committee involved,” she said.

“We work really hard to get this event to where it is.

“Having these entries shows that work is paying off.”

Smith thanked fellow organisers, assistants and sponsors for their help.

Entry is free on both days and spectators are welcome.
