Karting puts champions on right track – from the Gold Coast Bulletin

THE number one question I have been asked over more than 25 years in this business is ‘‘how do I get into the sport?’’ – and karting is my answer 99 per cent of the time.

Wheel action for all the family, from 7 to 70

Kart racing is the place where all current motor racing champions started their careers and, thanks to Ipswich Kart Club, you can get on track and have the chance to turn your dream into a reality on Sunday.

The club, located on Champions Way at Willowbank, is giving youngsters aged between seven and 16 the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a real racing kart at the Come and Try Day.

‘‘Kart racing is a real family sport and it can be enjoyed by people of all ages,’’ said club president Ashley Waardenberg. ‘‘People can start racing when they’re seven years of age right through to when they’re older than 70.’’

Waardenberg said this month’s Come and Try Day had been designed for those under 16.

‘‘One of the best things for the youngsters, both boys and girls, is that it teaches them about car control and driving techniques well before they are old enough to obtain their road licence,’’ he said.

Ipswich Kart Circuit is one of the country’s top karting venues and each year hosts a round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series. Ipswich has also hosted the national championships.

The Ipswich track is the closest venue for anyone at the Gold Coast wanting to get into the sport.
