The Gladstone Kart Club will come alive this weekend with the humming of motors and smell of rubber.
This will be the first home event for the club and will mark the start of a huge season.
“We are expecting 50 karters to attend this weekends events,” Craig Butler said.
“There should be a good variety of competitors from across the state.
“They will be using this and the meet in two weeks to familiarise themselves with our track before the State Titles at Easter.”
The weekends racing will commence Saturday morning gates opening at 6am, practice at 8am for races to start from 9.45am and depending upon the nominations should wrap up at 2pm with trophy presentations to follow at the canteen.
The clubs next meet will be in two weeks where Butler expects to see a larger crowd at the State Titles get closer.
“People will start to really want to get out, practice and start testing new karts and engines,” he said.
“They will also want to get as much time on our track as they can as this is where the titles will be held.”
This is not the first time that Gladstone has held the titles although it has been a few years.
“We are really looking forward to hosting the titles,” he said.
“We should see over 300 competitors over that three days of racing, which will include people from across Australia, as far south as Victoria and west as Western Australia.
“We held the closed state titles in October last year which were a good trial event for the big one at Easter.”
Before Easter however the club has this weekend’s races which will feature all age classes from Cadets to Seniors.
Entry is free for spectators with canteen and bar facilities.
Spectators can walk through the pits as long as the have enclosed shoes.
