THE Whitsunday Moto Sports Go Karting Club played host to some of the best go kart drivers from throughout North Queensland for the final round of the club championships last weekend.

A total of 17 drivers of all ages and classes went head-to-head at the Whitsunday Raceway for the two day event in the hope of gaining a highly prized podium finish.

Club president Adam Stroud said the quality of racing was excellent with the weather holding out for two great days of racing.

“One of the highlights of the year for the club was definitely hosting the Queensland Closed State Titles in September which proved very profitable for the club thanks to our dedicated volunteers and sponsors,” he said.

“It has been great to see the club grow in numbers with more people gaining an interest in the sport and offering to help out at race meetings and other club events.”

Mr Stroud said the December kart race meeting had to be cancelled due to unforseen circumstances so the club hosted the club championship awards for 2013 after the race day presentations.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of medals to the best driver in each class.

Lara Hadlow took out the cadets with Nathan Hadlow in the rookies, Georgie Nowell won the junior national light, Darcy Robb tasted victory in the sportsman light with Ralf Menzel taking out sportsman heavy and Dale McDonnel in the sportsman super heavy.

Other trophies were then presented to the top club championship drivers for 2013.

Whitsunday Moto Sports Go Karting Club will be hosting a practise day at the Whitsunday Raceway on December 7.

The club will be back in action with a working bee in January in preparation of their first race meeting in February next year.
