Karters battle it out – From the Daily Examiner

From the Daily Examiner – (http://www.dailyexaminer.com.au/story/2012/03/29/karters-battle-it-out-grafton/)

THE weather-gods were smiling again on Sunday as the Grafton Sporting Car Club hosted the Dash for Cash at the Mountainview Motorsport Complex, which also doubled as round two of the Grafton Karting 2012 season.

Expectations for a strong number of competitors for this inaugural event were high, going off what had been said around the traps leading up to the event, but race day numbers were definitely a bit disappointing.

Regardless, those that did manage to make it enjoyed a beautiful Grafton day and some very competitive and entertaining racing.

With prize money up for grabs for the top three placings in each class, thanks to our generous sponsors, all drivers turned up the wick come race time and plenty of “elbows out” racing was on display.

The Rookie class featured some great driving from some young yet very talented drivers.

This was an extremely tight class all day, with the top three runners swapping the lead many times each race, and swapping some paint as well, much to the delight of the crowd.

The winner’s trophy went to Kaleb Mustow-Veal from Wollingbah. Second place was taken out by Natasha Herne from Lismore and third went to Max Usher from Grafton.

The Junior Pro category treated the crowd to some really great karting on the day, with Chris Burley from Casino bagging the trophy.

Reuben Golsby from Murwillumbah, in only his second weekend at the challenging Mountainview track, grabbed second place, leaving Blake Evans from Round Mountain to claim a well deserved third placing.

The Clubman class lived up to its reputation as being a fast and furious category, and provided the crowd with a good-sized field, backed by some fierce driving.

Craig Fuller from Bonville was blindingly fast all day, and was deserving of his first position on the podium at day’s end. Second place was claimed by a flying Chris Whitton of Grafton. Third place was taken by Trent Schaerer from Lismore.

The TaG Restricted Class was represented by a small but passionate bunch.

First, a special mention has to go to Jason Tipper. The man experienced a mechanical gremlin all day, which forced him out of all five races, yet he kept joking and smiling.

You are made of sterner stuff than me Jason – I would have wheeled the thing into the bush and left it there if that happened to me.

After some tight racing, John Oakes from Lismore won, followed by Brian Tarrant, with third place being bagged by the gentleman of the day, George Wilkes of Casino.

The organisers of the Grafton Dash for Cash deemed the day to be a success, and plans are already afoot to make it bigger and better next year.

Thanks to the competitors, the crowd and particularly our sponsors, JR Richards and Sons Waste and Recycling, Grafton Diesel Repairs, JLS Plastering and Cement Rendering, Quinn Earthmoving, Quality 1 Services and GJ Gardner Building Services
