Queensland Hamish Campbell has finished as the best of the Australian drivers with a seventh placing at the inaugural FIA ‘Arrive & Drive’ World Cup in Malaysia.

Held at the LYL International Circuit, just outside of Kuala Lumpur, the event saw drivers 107 drivers from 50 countries compete in the Junior and Senior categories in identical equipment supplied by the OTK Kart Group.

After qualifying a disappointing 36th on Saturday morning, Campbell showed strong speed throughout his three heat races to start the final 16th.  Throughout the 17-lap journey, Campbell continually matched the speed of the front-runners as he edged his way towards the top ten before being crossing the line 11th.  He was then elevated following the post race penalties to be seventh in the final classifications.

Campbell’s fellow Queenslander Jack Larsen also highlighted the high level of Australian junior talent by starting 11th in the final.  After battling for a spot inside the top ten for the opening half of the race, Larsen would eventually finish just outside of the top ten in 12th position.

American Troy Ferguson secured the victory in the junior category after Japanese driver Simba Motoda, who crossed the line first, incurred a front fairing infringement post-race.  New Zealand driver, and regular competitor in Australia, Tommy Hart finished runner-up.

In the Senior ranks, Tasmanian Harry Bresnehan finished as the best of the Australian duo by finishing 13th.  The final was a dramatic event, with New Zealander Zach Tucker amongst the front trio throughout the race.  With five laps remaining Tucker found his way back into the lead and remained ahead until the race was cut short following a multi-kart pile-up when the rain began with three laps left on the board.

With the race declared, Tucker – who qualified fastest on Saturday – claimed the win ahead of Frenchman Oscar Goudchaux and Danish driver Knud Nielsen.  Also experiencing Tucker’s success was Victorian Adam Lindstrom, who was working as the Kiwi’s mechanic.

Unfortunately, for New South Wales driver Jett Kocoski, he was caught up the multi-kart incident just prior to the red flag and was classified 22nd.
