THE atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as competitors fired up for their events in the annual Easter 2 Track Challenge at the Gladstone Kart Club on Saturday.
The event is held between Rockhampton and Gladstone clubs over two days.
Gladstone Kart Club president David Bennett said the Saturday races were excellent.
“A couple of races were in the wet so it made it interesting,” he said. “There was some really close racing especially in the juniors.
“The Junior National Light was a really top quality field.”
On the first day of racing, Junior National Heavy winner Jack Bussey, 11, said he was excited to be in the running for a win.
“There was fierce competition and I managed to sneak in to the lead.
“But I have to win either two out of the three to secure my win,” he said going into the second day.
Jack has been racing for about three years but he said it was only his second time in this division.
“It was pretty cool to be in the lead,” he said.
Saturday’s leaders included about five racers from Gladstone
Two of which were Martin Newton in the Tag 125 Light and Josh Rogers in the Junior National Light.
The 2 Track Challenge continued in Rockhampton on Sunday.
