FRIDAY NOTEBOOK FROM THE NSW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

New look lids are a catchy trend
At last month’s Rotax Nationals David Sera unveiled a new look helmet, and it seems the trend is catching on.

CRG driver Jason Hryniuk has taken the covers of a new Diesel Design helmet at this weekend’s New South Wales Championships. Another front-runner to do the same is CIK Stars of Karting Pro Light Champion Cian Fothergill.

Like Hryniuk, Fothergill kept a similar colour scheme to his previous lid but he has however incorporated more of a stylish than his previous helmet design courtesy of LA Designs.

Simo’s search for speed
It appears as through Queenslander Brenton Simonds will do almost anything in the search for speed.

After finishing yesterday’s practice off the pace Simonds removed the trademark ‘goatie’. Unfortunately, the smoother, silkier look didn’t help the Tracksa Racing pilot today and he qualified 19th fastest today.

Another Baker Special?
In 2006 Daniel Baker claimed the Senior National Heavy New South Wales State Championship in a chassis designed by the Parramatta Kart Warehouse driver and his father Ian.

At this weekend’s New South Wales Championship Baker is once again campaigning a chassis designed by the pair. Judging by his performance in qualifying today the Sydneysider is in with a good shot of going on to replicating his 2006 success this weekend.

New South Wales drivers dominate the entry list
New South Wales drivers dominate the entry list in this weekend’s New South Wales Karting Championships with 164 drivers hailing from the home state. This is 100 more than the next best represented, which is Queensland.

Victorian drivers make up 47 entries on the list with South Australia the other state being represented through two entries from Todd Hazelwood.
