IT WAS a sweltering 40 degrees in Bolivar, South Australia, on the weekend, making the first round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series a real challenge for karters.

Gladstone karter Cian Fothergill said that the heat meant the last few laps came down to the survival of the fittest.

“It was very hot which makes the race a whole different ball game,” Fothergill said.

Although the heat was a struggle, Fothergill, who competes in the Pro Light KF1, was still able to finish the round in a good spot.

“I came third in the round and first in the South Australian Championships,” he said.

The championship was awarded by virtue of winning the opening final of the day. Fothergill was awarded the South Australian championship for the category.

Fothergill was happy with his results although he hoped for a better result in round two which was coming up in April and would be held in Newcastle. “My goal this year is to win the entire series.”

Fothergill did so in 2012 so it’s within his reach.
