AUSTRALIAN champion karter Cian Fothergill was a surprise inclusion at Rockhampton’s Formula K Kart Club meet on Saturday.
The Gladstone driver made the trip north to contest the club’s last meet of the year.
In tough conditions the Australian champion came out on top winning the day in his gear box division.
Andrew MacMaster was too quick for the field in the clubman heavy and clubman over-40s categories.
The senior national heavy class was one of the few classes where the club championship was still to be settled.
The final lap saw Kev Doherty and Brett Elise battle it out, with Doherty coming a close second.
By the afternoon the weather had deteriorated. What started as a light shower made the track extremely slippery for division winner Fred Watson during the Leopard heavy and Lotax race.
But then the heavens opened with torrential rain causing plenty of challenges for drivers.
Other 2011 club champions included: Joel Jamieson, Midgets; Olivia Bell, Rookies and Most races in the year; Aiden Newton, Junior National Heavy; Mitchell Else, Clubman Light; and, Harleigh Baker, Clubman heavy.
Many club members are set represent the club at various state and national events.
