RAIN had the final say when round two of Mount Isa Go Kart Club Championships competition revved up at Lagoon Park Raceway at the weekend.

The downpour couldn’t quell the talent of Lochlan Dew, Kailee Whitehead and Matthew Rogers who all claimed maiden round wins.

In the Cadets (7-11 years) category, it was Dew who stole the show.

He won not only his first race ever, but two of the four heats to narrowly defeat Anthony English, who was unlucky to be caught up in lapped traffic in the third heat.

The tangle saw English receive a DNF which relegated him to second overall.

Bradley Leonard was again right on the pace in the leading trio and drove well to place third.

In only his second race meeting, Matthew Bishop drove well to gain his first top three heat placing on his way to placing fourth overall, ahead of Aiden Wise, Brianna Thirlwall and Liam Wise.

Kailee Whitehead took her first heat and round victories in the Junior National Light (12-16 years) category.

Competitors spent most of the meeting watching the back of her go-kart as she wone the first three heats.

The ever-improving Daniel Watt finished in second place.

In Senior Clubman Heavy, Matthew Rogers broke through for his first round win in Mount Isa.

The former Brisbane karter overcame the bad luck that plagued him in round one to win two of the three heats, claiming first place overall with what was a dominant display of driving.

Trevor Hollyman finished in second place, with Michael Shearer rounding out spots on the podium.

Hollyman went one better in the Touch and Go 100 category, winning the round ahead of Mark Ezzy and Craig Robinson.

Other round winners included Paul Thirlwall in Rookies (10-12 years), Guy Hicks in Senior National Light, Shaun Marriette in Senior Clubman Light and Travis Crowther in Senior Clubman Super Heavy.

The third round of Mount Isa Go Kart Club Championship racing will be held on Saturday, April 14.

Racing will start at 3pm at Lagoon Park Raceway, which is on Bendall Drive off Duchess Road.
