Qualifying day at Round Two of the 2013 CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE saw a number of new winners across the three pro categories today.

In the Pro Junior (KF) ranks it was Victorian Jake Klein who snared his maiden pole position this morning before going on to record three top three finishes in his heat races.  It was the consistency of Liam McLellan, who won one heat and finished second in the other two, that earned him pole position for tomorrow’s opening final.

Western Australian Kurt Kostecki won two of his three heat races, however, a failing to finish the opening heat will see him start from position seven tomorrow.

Master Karting driver George Geranis secured a career first pole position in the Pro Light (KF) category before crossing the line first in the final 20-lap encounter.  The Victorian was unlucky for it not to be two wins for the day as he was forced to stop while in the lead due to his racing suit coming adrift in the opening heat race.

Cian Fothergill Karting driver Troy Loeskow was another driver to win his maiden race in the series with victory in heat two.  Kosmic Racing Australia’s Matthew Waters recorded a first, second and third to secure pole position for tomorrow’s opening final.

In the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) category it was once again Joey Hanssen and Chris Hays who set the pace.  The pair diced it out for pole position before Hanssen secured the top spot on his final flying lap in the Top Five Shootout.  The pair then split the victories in the heat races, however, a mechanical failure in heat one has led to Hanssen lining up fifth on the grid in tomorrow’s opening final.

Hays will start from pole position with Formula K driver Lee Mitchener alongside.  The CRG pair of Jason Pringle and Matthew Wall will occupy the second row.

In the TaG Light category it was Pierce Lehane who dominated proceedings with three victories.  Harrington Doyle Racing-backed driver Brendan Nelson will start from pole position in the TaG Heavy category with surprise-packet Aaron Hindle alongside.

In the TaG Restricted categories it is Kyle Henry Smith (Light) and Michael Smith-Crossing (Heavy) who dominated.  Cooper Murray won both Rookies heats.

The finals will begin from 9am tomorrow morning.
