Dodge shows his class at climax for season

Star driver Lydon Dodge prevailed in two categories of the recent meet: the sportsman light and senior national light class.

In the sportsman light, under-rated Lexi Underwood started from the front, but it was Dodge who reeled her in with a lightning move in lap five to seal the win.

Christian Clark would have been the main contender in the senior national light class but he was trying a seat of a different size in a Suzuki Swift racing at Lakeside Raceway, posting the fastest lap time in the final.

Dodge took full advantage, making a rare appearance in the division and showing his dominance throughout the heats and final, with hotly favoured Lexi Underwood again unable to match his driving skills.

The highlight of the night was clubman heavy, with pre-race favourite Blake Harris experiencing mechanical problems, paving the way for Nathan Mcnab to score victory.

The Midget class was taken out by the consistent Jack King who capped a big year when he was too slick from Brodie Davis and Travis Andres.

Zac Ewing, in the rookie class, displayed impressive speed all weekend finishing on the top step of the podium followed by rivals Matthew Want and Townsville’s Nathan Granata.

In junior national light, Matthew Foyle took heat one, but Matthew King saluted in heat two, with Blake Jerrett finding speed to finish second in both heats.

King took and held the lead, with Foyle in second place until an altercation ended his run, leaving the way for Jerrett to claim a well- deserved second with Jaiydn Farmer third.

Billy Foyle was earmarked as the one to beat in the junior national heavy class, but was plagued with carburettor problems, and John and Tessa Underwood took advantage to claim the front row for the final.

With a lightning quick pit stop, John extended his lead to over a lap to claim his first 100 Lapper victory ahead of cousin Tessa and Foyle.

After almost a year absent from racing, Daniel Roser returned to stamp his dominance on the senior national heavy class taking out the two heats and starting from pole position for the final and staying there.

Mechanical problems in clubman heavy saw Mark Ezzy and Andrew Lane come out with a vengeance in TAG100, and they were able to finish on top at the end of proceedings.

The race season is over for this year and will restart in February next year.

Cairns Kart Club president David Harris said it was a successful season despite losing three meetings to bad weather.

“It was a great season for us. We’ll continue on with the meetings next year and we’re just hoping for some finer weather,” he said.
