Dodge holds narrow karting lead
LYDON Dodge must hold off a strong challenge from New South Welshman Aaron Borg to secure the Yamaha Challenge at the CIK Stars of Karting when the series concludes next month.
The Cairns driver was coasting towards victory in the country’s most prestigious karting series but will only take an eight-point advantage into the final round after crashing during round four action.
“It was a weekend that I think I’d rather forget, but the best thing is I’m still in the lead and still have the opportunity to win,” Dodge said.
He has put a positive spin on his last-round failings, saying it will ensure he is on his game when the fifth and final round begins in Newcastle on October 15.
“Going into the last round with a 50-point lead, I may have started to get ahead of myself with people talking to me about what would happen when I won,” he said.
“I’m trying to keep all of that out of my head and now being only eight points in front could be a godsend, as I won’t have people saying it’s in the bag.
‘‘I really have to focus and work for it if I’m going to win.”
